Collective worship is an important part of daily life at St Laurence in Thanet Church of England Junior Academy. It provides opportunities for children and adults to come together, reflect on our Christian vision and values and consider how these can be lived out within school and the wider community.

All teaching staff contribute to leading collective worship, including worship within the classroom. Worship is planned and delivered in accordance with our school guidelines, Collective Worship Policy and the guidance provided by the Diocese of Canterbury. Our provision is regularly monitored to ensure that worship remains meaningful, inclusive and inspiring.

Children are encouraged to engage thoughtfully in worship, develop their spirituality and show respect for the beliefs and views of others. Worship includes Bible stories, prayer, music, reflection, discussion and opportunities for pupils to respond creatively.

Reverend Catherine, Vicar of St Laurence Church, leads worship in school each week. Classes also make regular visits to the church and the whole school comes together for a church service once each term, including celebrations linked to the Christian calendar.

Children are actively encouraged to take part in planning and leading worship. They may lead prayers, read Bible passages, introduce themes, choose music or invite others to reflect and respond.

We use a range of resources to support the planning and delivery of collective worship, including Picture News and Big Start Assemblies. These resources help pupils to explore Bible stories, Christian values, current affairs and important issues in an age-appropriate and engaging way.

Each classroom has a dedicated prayer and reflection space. These areas provide children with opportunities to pause, reflect, pray and respond to the themes explored through worship.
