At St Laurence CE Junior Academy, courageous advocacy is an important part of our vision and values. We encourage our children to develop compassion, courage and a sense of responsibility towards others, helping them to become thoughtful citizens who want to make a positive difference in the world around them.
Courageous advocacy means standing up for what is right, speaking out against injustice and supporting those who may be vulnerable or in need. Through worship, Religious Education, PSHE, charity work and wider curriculum opportunities, children are encouraged to think carefully about local, national and global issues and consider how they can respond with kindness, fairness and courage.
Our Agents of Change projects help children to put courageous advocacy into action. Pupils are encouraged to notice issues in the world around them, reflect on why they matter and consider what they can do to help. Through class projects, pupil leadership, awareness campaigns and practical action, children learn that they have a voice and that their choices can make a difference.
As a school community, we support a range of charitable causes and community projects throughout the year. Children are given opportunities to lead fundraising events, take part in awareness campaigns, support local initiatives and learn about the experiences of others. Through these experiences, pupils begin to understand that even small actions can have a meaningful impact on the lives of others.
Our aim is for every child to leave St Laurence with the confidence to use their voice wisely, act with integrity and show care and respect for all members of society.

Books 4 Africa
We invited pupils and their families to donate unwanted books to support Books2Africa. A huge thank you to everyone who donated and helped us make such a positive difference.
Thanks to the generosity of our school community, we collected enough books to fill 5 boxes. These books will now be given a new life and help support education and access to reading materials in communities across Africa.

Agents of Change Project Term 6
Big question: How can we be agents of change by caring for God’s Earth?
During Term 6, our pupils explored how they could care for the planet through small, practical actions that could make a meaningful difference.
The project linked to World Environment Day, Great Big Green Week, World Oceans Day and Clean Air Day. Through a range of activities, pupils learned more about important environmental issues and considered how they could help protect the world around them, both in school and at home.

Toilet Twinning
We used some of the money raised by our pupils and families to twin one of our school toilets through Toilet Twinning. Our donation will help support communities living in poverty by improving access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene. This project helped pupils understand how a simple action taken by our school community could make a meaningful difference to the health, safety and dignity of others around the world.

Beach School
Year 5 enjoyed a fantastic day at Beach School on Ramsgate Main Sands, where they took part in a range of practical activities linked to the local coastline and environment.
Throughout the day, pupils rotated around four specialist stations. They explored the shore and marine life, investigated local wildlife habitats, learned about the journeys of migratory birds and considered the impact of litter and pollution on our coast.
The children also thought about how climate change affects local ecosystems and discussed the small choices we can all make to help protect our oceans and wildlife.
It was a valuable and enjoyable day of outdoor learning, and the rain held off… mostly!

Our Worship Shepherds led special assemblies in all classes. Children raised money for the charity Young Minds which helps children and young people. Our school community raised £80.00!

Rockstar Number Day
We’ve had a wonderful day celebrating the NSPCC Number Day. It was fantastic to see all the children dressed up in their best rocking gear! The children have had a fun filled day of mathematical activities, all whilst raising money for such a worthy cause. We really appreciate your support and have raised a total of £103. All the money will make an enormous difference to children today and help the NSPCC be there for children tomorrow. Year 6 used their bodies to make 2D and 3D shapes – quite a challenge but they were extremely creative and made some interesting examples! They went on to compete in the Times Table Rock Stars NSPCC Rocks Competition, working in pairs to improve their own personal bests. This afternoon saw the children using Maths Prodigy to battle against one another and use their mathematical skills to explore a magical world!
Year 5 had rock stars galore! Axel Rose and Bon Jovi’s rocking out to Maths games! For the support act, the children solved a maths mystery, using clues to solve who had stolen the towels from the PE room. Followed by first act, where they designed their own maths game, to then have a game battle of bands and complete each other’s games. For the main act of the day, the children took part in a QR quiz around the year 5 classrooms, working to solve a variety of maths-based problems.
Year 4’s number day was based on chocolate! They started by solving the mystery of the missing chocolate bar and the winning team won a chocolate treat! Next they worked together to solve multiplication calculations to find out how many pieces were in different d chocolate bars. Everyone then got to eat chocolate! After that, they created and played their very own times table games. In the afternoon everyone took part in a times table treasure hunt outside to crack the code. What a great day!
Year 3 spent the day playing lots of different maths games! They challenged each other with their number bonds and times tables and had an exciting tournament to beat the button! They loved watching different videos of people singing times tables to catchy tunes!
Christmas Jumper Day
We celebrated Christmas Jumper Day alongside our school Christmas dinner, making it a wonderfully festive occasion for everyone.
So far, we have raised more than £100 for our two chosen charities this year. Thank you to everyone who contributed and helped us reach this fantastic total.
A special thank you also goes to Reverend Catherine, Mrs Cutler and Mr Roberts for coming in and helping to make the day such a success.
