The pupils and teaching staff at St Laurence in Thanet CE Junior Academy in Ramsgate came within the top 16% of schools in the country in England Rocks – a times tables competition run by the award-winning app and learning platform, Times Tables Rock Stars.
The competition was fierce with millions of questions answered collectively by over 500,000 pupils from more than 3,573 schools and 28,475 classes around the country.
The school’s highest ranking class, Palm Bay, impressively finished in the top 4% of the country. They answered 36,567 questions correctly.
Mrs Buckland, Deputy Head Teacher and Math Lead, added: “We are so proud of our children. The pupils excelled themselves throughout the England Rocks competition.
Henry, a pupil from Palm Bay class, said: “Every school in England did very well and I am happy that everyone participated at St Laurence and tried their best. It was really fun to have the competition and it helped people to be motivated to practice their times tables.”
“Not only did they engage in some friendly competition but there were also some clear improvements in their recall and speed as time went on. That’s always been our goal – to make learning maths basics so fun that pupils give it their all.”
